ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's cross country team battled Cornell and Cortland in an early season 5k at the Moakley Golf Course near Cornell's campus. On a tough course with nearly 150 feet of elevation and multiple road crossings, the Bombers ran a controlled effort to set them up for success later in the season.
The Bombers were led by sophomore
Griffin Lupes. Lupes, who won the alumni run last weekend, has continued to impress in the early going. Executing the race plan to perfection, he got faster each mile and ultimately ran a 16:29 to finish fifth in the field.
He was followed up by senior
Elliott Painting who also finished in the top ten, running a 16:47 to finish eighth overall. He was followed by sophomore
Felix Farrugia who finished 13th overall with a time of 17:13.
The following Bomber finishers were runners who did not make their regional squad last fall. Sophomore
Luke Ferrer finished 16th overall, running 17:18. He was followed up junior Dom Agostinelli who ran 17:26 to finish 18th. He was followed closely by junior
Colin Lesher who ran 17:28 to finish 19th. Lesher is a returning varsity runner for the Bombers, who put together a solid performance after dealing with illness during the week.
The Bombers ultimately placed third overall, with a score of 59 points. However, they were missing four runners due to injury or illness.
Cornell took home the team title with a score of just 19 points with first-year Ibrahim Ford taking home the individual title in 16:00.
The Bombers will be back in action on September 19 when they travel to Rochester to compete at the Yellowjacket Invitational in their first 8K of the season.
