Field Hockey Rolls to 6-1 Win at Houghton in Season Opener

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey team erupted for a 6-1 victory at Houghton University on Tuesday evening to open the 2026 season. The six goals scored are the most for the Bombers in a season-opening victory since 2013 when IC topped Wells, 8-0.

Ithaca jumped out to a 3-0 lead within the opening 10 minutes of the contest as Caroline Folan tallied the first goal of the season off a pass from Mia Woodard at the 4:36 mark. Less than a minute later, Breeah Shaw notched her first of two goals on the night, and Toni Ierardi took a feed from Audrey McMahon at 9:57.

The Bombers tacked on two more goals in the second quarter to take a 5-0 lead into halftime. Shaw put home her second of the contest on another unassisted goal just 1:29 into the period, while McMahon scored just over eight minutes later.

Houghton got on the board in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter, but Brooke Snider re-established IC's five-goal margin with just under five minutes left in the contest to give IC the 6-1 victory.

Maeve Clark earned the win in 30 minutes of action as she made one save, while Abby Cannon played the second half and stopped one shot.

The Bombers outshot Houghton, 28-7, and held an 8-5 edge in corner attempts.

IC is home on Friday evening at 7 p.m. against Misericordia and then takes on No. 21 Haverford on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. at Higgins Stadium.
