The final day of racing at the IRA National Championships began with the Second Varsity 8 competing against Marietta for seventh place overall. Knowing they faced a strong opponent, the Bombers executed a clean start and held a slight advantage through the opening stages of the race. Marietta gradually gained momentum as the race unfolded, but Ithaca continued to battle for every seat. Despite a determined effort from the Bombers, Marietta was able to extend its lead, leaving Ithaca with an eighth-place national finish.
The First Varsity 8 closed out the weekend for the Bombers in a matchup with Colby for seventh place. Ithaca came off the line aggressively and established a half-length advantage early. Through the first 1,000 meters, the crews traded moves and crossed the midpoint nearly even. Colby gained a slight edge during the third 500 meters, but the Bombers refused to back down. Ithaca mounted a charge in the closing stretch, forcing Colby to earn every inch of open water before ultimately finishing second in the race and eighth overall in the nation.
With the conclusion of racing, the Bombers wrapped up another successful season highlighted by a third consecutive Liberty League Championship and a return to the national stage.
"I am incredibly thankful for the five seniors who graduated from Ithaca College and helped push our rowing program to new heights," said Head Coach
Justin Stangel. "It's difficult to end the season this way because our goals were higher, but this group can hold its heads high. They helped reset the standards within our program and laid a strong foundation for the future. We are proud of what they accomplished and grateful for everything they gave to Ithaca Rowing."
