SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close in the Liberty League semifinals as the Bombers dropped a 16-12 contest at Union on Friday. IC finishes the season with a 12-6 record.
The first quarter appeared to be all Garnet Chargers as the Bombers defense attempted to hold strong, but Union hammered home seven goals into the back of the net. Their scoring rhythm came to an end when
Lily Cody finally put the Bombers on the board with 51 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Union put two more away early on in the second quarter, pushing its lead to 9-1.
Sydney Smith then found the back of the net for the Bombers closing the lead to seven. Union then went on a three-goal run extending the lead to 10, however the Bombers would not let them hold onto that for long.
Kelly Augeri tallied her 48th goal of the season 1:28 after Union's recent goal. Back-to-back goals from
Leigh Naturale and
Kathryn Scallon shifted the score to 14-6 heading into halftime.
Goals from Augeri, Cody, and
Aubrey Holowinski to open the half brought the Bombers within five. As Union netted one of its own,
Katelyn Ikle found the back of the net keeping the margin at five. With 6:58 left in the game, Augeri found the net once again closing the lead to four. In the last 1:50 of play Holowinski netted another making the final score 16-12 Union.
In the defensive end,
Phoebe Hosford led with five ground balls and two caused turnovers and
Gabrielle Crellin followed closely behind with five ground balls and one caused turnover.
Additionally,
Mikaela Dattilo made nine saves with two ground balls to close out her season.
