POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team was handed its first Liberty League loss of the season on Saturday as the Bombers fell to Clarkson, 18-16, in Potsdam. Ithaca is now 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Liberty League.
As the Golden Knights jumped out to an early lead notching the first goal the Bombers strapped in for back-and-forth play.
Leigh Naturale netted the first goal for the Bombers 3:03 minutes into the game, tying it 1-1. As Clarkson scored its second goal, IC's
Anna Dahlman quickly responded with assist from
Lily Cody. Clarkson then went on a two-goal run which was stopped as Dahlman netted her second of the day.
The two teams then exchanged goals as
Kathryn Scallon netted another for the Bombers, shifting the score to 4-5 Clarkson. With 1:23 in the first quarter, Naturale found the back of the net off an assist from
Phoebe Hosford, tying the game up 5-5.
Lily Cody edged the Bombers ahead with a goal with 23 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Out of the gate in the second quarter,
Aubrey Holowinski and Cody netted goals shifting the score to 8-6 Bombers. With 6:23 left in the half the Golden Knights had once again tied it up at 8 apiece. Naturale netted yet another goal, however, Clarkson responded with two of its own inching the Golden Knights ahead 9-10 heading into half time.
As Clarkson netted two goals, Cody kept the Bombers within reach as the score shifted to 10-12 with 8:14 left in the third quarter. Holowinski tallied yet another goal off an assist from
Kelly Augeri with 3:41 left in the period, making the score 12-13 Golden Knights. Augeri then took one for herself as she tied the game up at 13 all as the quarter wrapped up.
Clarkson came out of the gate in the fourth with three straight goals, jumping out to 13-16 lead with 12 minutes to play. Naturale off an assist from Scallon closed to gap to two once again. With 6:13 left in the game the score was made 15-17 as Sydney smith netted the ball for the Bombers. With 2:40 remaining Naturale scored another goal, however it was not enough as the Bombers fell to the Golden Knights 16-18.
Ithaca has a mid-week road contest at Rochester Wednesday at 4 p.m. and then returns to home to play Union on Saturday at 3 p.m., which is the first of six straight home games.
