Sydney Miranda Tallies Three Hits as Softball Splits with No. 20 Rowan and Ursinus

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ithaca College softball team took advantage of perfect weather in Florida on Tuesday, squaring off against No. 20 Rowan University and finishing the day with a win over Ursinus College. The Bombers were shut out by the nationally ranked Profs but bounced back with a convincing win later in the afternoon.

NO. 20 ROWAN 5, ITHACA 0 (F)
Both teams threatened to score in the first inning but were kept off the board. In the top half, Madison Collins stranded two runners by inducing a groundout from Abigail Pawlowski. The Bombers then loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, but the Profs turned an inning‑ending double play to escape the jam.

Collins again escaped unscathed in the top of the second, forcing Mikayla Dansky to ground out to Sydney Miranda with Rowan runners on second and third. The Profs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Abigail Pawlowski doubled home Ava Fisher.

The IC first year then settled in with a 1‑2‑3 fourth, while the Bombers were unable to capitalize in the bottom half as Sydney Miranda was left stranded after ripping a two‑out single through the middle.

No. 20 Rowan chased Madison Collins from the game in the fifth inning, scoring four runs, including two unearned. The Profs added an insurance run in the sixth, plating the game's final run off Kahlen Cornell.

The Bombers recorded six hits in the loss but left 11 runners stranded. Miranda went 2‑for‑3, while Anna Bello, Kailen Winkelblech, Cate Murray, and Elise Waddington accounted for the remaining hits.

ITHACA 6, URSINUS 3 (F)
Isabella Maynard got Ithaca on the board, driving in Kailen Winkelblech with a deep double to the fence after Winkelblech walked and stole second in the top half of the first inning. Maynard extended the Bombers' lead to 2-0 when she came home to score as Sydney Miranda reached on a throwing error.

With the scored knotted at 2-2, Ithaca put traffic on the basepaths with Miranda reaching on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt and on the sequence Maynard crossed home plate to give the Bombers the lead back.

Ursinus tied the game again at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Bombers responded immediately with smart baserunning. Kailen Winkelblech legged out an infield single to drive in Cate Murray, and Elise Waddington extended the lead to 5-3 by scoring on a passed ball. Sydney Miranda added another RBI on the season her fifth of the season, ripping a double down the line that ricocheted off the Bears' third baseman's glove.

Miranda went 1‑for‑3 at the plate, while Kailen Winkelblech and Isabella Maynard each collected two hits. Mady Rowell threw five innings, striking out five while allowing two runs. Madison Collins came on in relief and earned the win, scattering two hits over two innings.

With the split, Ithaca College improved to 4-2 overall and will return to action on Thursday, March 19 taking on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville at 12:15 p.m. followed by Manchester University at 2:30 p.m. as part of THE Spring Games.
