Geneseo, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's lacrosse team outscored Geneseo 2-0 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but the Bombers ultimately fell, 8–7, on Wednesday evening. With the road loss, Ithaca moves to 0–2 on the season, while the Knights improve to 1–1.
After an early Geneseo goal,
Andrew Minard settled in for the Bombers, and following a successful clear,
Tim Rogers buried a shot with 7:40 left in the first quarter. The Knights answered just over two minutes later, and Alex Johanson extended the lead to 3–1 with an early second quarter tally.
Rogers sparked Ithaca midway through the frame, scooping up a ground ball that led to a
Lucas Proctor goal to make it 3–2. The Bombers continued the momentum, and Rogers netted his second of the day at the 11:38 mark to even the score.
Ethan Adrid would give the Bombers their first lead of the day a little over a minute later with a man-up goal.
Ryan Trebing answered for the Knights with an unassisted goal at the 2:45 mark of the half, and after
Will Kleine rang a shot off the crossbar on the opposite end, Josh Knapp set up Ronnie Trebing for another Geneseo tally to send the Knights into halftime with a 5–4 lead.
Geneseo pushed the advantage to 6–4 early in the third, and a late strike with six seconds remaining in the quarter extended the margin to 7–5 heading into the fourth. The Bombers were able to knot it at 7-7, finding early back-to-back goals from
Will Kleine. IC outshot the home team 11-6 to send the game into overtime.
The Knights brought the ball down the field and Askel Stanat called game with 1:26 left, making a diving shot through traffic for the 8-7 win.
Kleine and Rogers each finished with two goals.
Andrew Minard posted a strong outing in net, recording 13 saves and finishing with a .619 save percentage.
The Bombers return to action on Saturday, February 28, with another road matchup as they travel to face the University of Scranton. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
