TROY, N.Y.- The Ithaca College women's basketball fell to the RPI Engineers, 74-54 on Saturday afternoon in a Liberty League matchup. The loss brought the Bombers to 8-15 on the season and 5-11 in conference.
In a heavily contested first quarter the Bombers and Engineers traded points the entire quarter as it ended 13-13. Through strong defense,
Natalie Tucker was able to find the net for the Bombers in the quarter, leading them with five points, while
Zoraida Icabalceta got three rebounds for the Bombers.
The offenses started to come alive in the second quarter with each team managing their longest run of the game. Midway through the quarter, the Bombers got a six-point stretch with a layup from Icabalceta, plus two jumpers from
Tori Drevna and
Grace McNamara. However, at the end of the half, RPI countered with nine consecutive points of their own to take the lead 30-26 heading into the halftime break.
The Bombers opened up the third quarter strong with back-to-back layups from Drevna and McNamara to tie the game 30-30. Both teams then started to trade points again, as RPI retook the lead with a four-point run followed by five straight points from Ithaca to take back the advantage 35-34.
Madalyn Barrows then closed out the quarter for the Bombers, making a jump shot right at the buzzer to tie the game 45-45. However, in the fourth quarter, the Engineers put the game away, outscoring the Bombers 29-9 in the final frame to close out the game 74-54.
Grace McNamara led the Bombers with 12 points and six rebounds, followed by
Zoraida Icabalceta who contributed nine points and five rebounds.
The Bombers will finish off their regular season with back-to-back home games against Skidmore College on Friday night at 5:30 p.m., and then they have their final game on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against Vassar College for Senior Day.
