Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's soccer team was dealt a 2-0 loss at Union College on Saturday afternoon to fall to 1-2-2 in the Liberty League and 5-3-4 overall.

The Bombers looked to strike early, earning a set piece just outside the box before Kyra Lynch helped create an opportunity in front of goal. Margo Kasenchar followed with a shot from the top of the box, but the Union goalkeeper made the save.

Ithaca continued to search for the opening goal, with Mia Medearis putting a shot on target late in the first half. However, the Chargers' goalkeeper denied the attempt to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.

Katrina Varnum anchored the Bombers' defense, making several key saves to keep Union off the scoreboard. Ithaca continued to hold strong defensively through the second half, blocking shots and clearing dangerous crosses as both teams searched for the breakthrough.

With 11 minutes remaining in regulation, Union found the back of the net following a scramble in the box to take a 1-0 lead. The Chargers added a second goal shortly afterward, converting a penalty kick following a handball in the box to extend their advantage to 2-0.

Despite a strong defensive effort from the Bombers and several scoring opportunities, Ithaca was unable to find the back of the net as Union secured the victory.

The Bombers look to bounce back on Tuesday, traveling to Rochester to take on RIT at 5 p.m.
