ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Ithaca College women's basketball team battled through a strong third quarter surge and multiple scoring runs but ultimately fell to RIT, 80–55, Saturday afternoon in Liberty League women's basketball action at Clark Gymnasium.
The Bombers showed resilience after an early deficit, cutting into the Tigers' lead in the middle quarters behind strong performances from
Zoraida Icabalceta and
Tori Drevna. Ithaca outscored RIT 19–12 in the third quarter and trimmed the margin to 15 heading into the final frame before the Tigers pulled away late.
RIT set the tone early, opening the game with a 12–2 run and leading 26–10 after the first quarter. The Tigers shot 71.4 percent from the field in the opening frame and connected on six of their first eight attempts from three-point range.
Ithaca found a rhythm offensively in the second quarter behind Icabalceta and Drevna. Icabalceta scored nine of her team-high 14 points in the first half, while Drevna added six as the Bombers went into halftime trailing 46–24.
The Bombers responded after the break, opening the third quarter with improved ball movement and defensive pressure. A 3-pointer from
Madalyn Barrows sparked the run, while
Grace McNamara added baskets in transition. Ithaca cut the deficit to 15 late in the third, but RIT answered with timely shooting to take a 58–43 lead into the fourth.
RIT regained control in the final quarter, using an 11–2 run midway through the period to extend its advantage to 27 points. The Tigers sealed the win at the free-throw line, going 12-for-15 in the fourth.
Icabalceta led Ithaca with 14 points and five assists. Drevna finished with six points and a team-high nine rebounds, while McNamara added eight points. Barrows chipped in six points and four rebounds.
RIT was led by Maddy Ramsgard's game-high 21 points, while Ben Kayser-Cochran added 18. Caroline Henderson finished with 16 points and five assists as the Tigers shot 50.9 percent from the field.
Ithaca moves to 7–12 overall and 4–8 in Liberty League play. The Bombers will return to action on Friday, February 6 when they host St. Lawrence with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m.
