No. 3 Johns Hopkins Too Much for IC Football in Season Opener, 42-14

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College football team opened its 2025 season at home against a formidable opponent in No. 3 Johns Hopkins University and wound up on the wrong end of a 42-14 decision. The Bombers are now 0-3 all-time against Johns Hopkins.

Ithaca received the opening kick and reached midfield before the drive stalled, and the Bombers were forced to punt. Hopkins was forced to a three-and-out on its initial possession and IC punted the ball right back after three downs.

On that punt, the Bluejays muffed the punt, but recovered the loose ball. A few plays later in the drive, IC was flagged for pass interference to extend the drive. On the next play, Hopkins broke off a 32-yard run down inside the 10-yard line and scored on the ensuing snap with an 8-yard completion to make it 7-0 with 6:38 left in the quarter.

IC gave the ball right back on an interception and Hopkins used up the final six minutes of the quarter to move down to the Bombers' 2-yard line.

Hopkins controlled the remainder of the half and scored three more touchdowns to build a 28-0 lead. The Bluejays outgained IC, 202-84, in the first half and kept the Bomber offense off schedule with four sacks and two turnovers.

The Bluejays received the second half kick and burned nearly half the clock, which resulted in another touchdown at the 7:49 mark.

IC got on the board with 2:13 remaining in the third quarter as Matthew Parker found Nicholas Lang for a 2-yard touchdown reception for a 35-7 contest.

Hopkins scored its final touchdown of the matchup early in the fourth quarter on a 59-yard touchdown run and the Bombers closed out the scoring on a 7-yard run by Michael Reed with just over three minute left in the game.

Defensively, Sam Tourangeau and Joe Spirra led the charge with 12 and 11 tackles. Ryan Burns added nine tackles with a forced fumble.

Chris Scully rushed for 57 yards on 13 carries and Lang led the receivers with 90 yards on seven grabs.

Ithaca is back in action next Saturday, September 13 at Alfred.
