No. 24 Ithaca Softball Caps off Regular Season with Sweep of RIT

ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 24 nationally ranked Ithaca College softball team once again battled the elements and the rain with the Bombers battling the RIT Tigers during a the final Liberty League conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Ithaca put together a 12-0 run-rule win in the first game and would complete the sweep with a 5-1 victory as the Bombers now sit at 25-6 overall and 11-3 in conference.
 
At the conclusion of the doubleheader, the softball program honored Sela Scheinman, Cynthia Ehrenfeld and Anna Cornell in a Senior Day presentation.


 
Game 1: Ithaca 12, RIT 0 (F-5)
Anna Cornell was locked and loaded to start the game off with three-straight strikeouts. The Bombers were able to score first in the bottom half of the inning when Elise Waddington hit a double to left field sending Cate Murray home from second. IC would then make it 2-0 when Anna Bello doubled to left center field, which brought home Waddington.
 
Cornell recorded two more punchouts in the top of the second to bring her total to five. Ithaca would again threaten in the bottom half of the second inning, as Jessie Lopez singled with one-out and Sela Scheinman and Cate Murray would both be walked to load the bases. Waddington would send in two more runs when she singled up the middle. Petrucci would follow that up with a double to left center field, which produced another pair of RBI.
 
On Senior Day, Cynthia Ehrenfeld would hit a double right down the third base line. The bottom of the second would close with a score of 10-0 for the Bombers with Lopez knocking in runners from second and third.
 
Cornell would remain perfect recording three more strikeouts in the top of the third. Elise Waddington would then connect on a Bomber blast sending a homer over the fence in left field bringing in Murray from first, which brought the score to 12-0.


 
Cornell would keep her perfect game alive by throwing three more strikeouts to close out the top of the fourth inning.
 
The Tigers got on base for the first time with a single from Sylvia White in the top of the fifth inning. The Bombers took the first game of the series by keeping RIT scoreless in a final score of 12-0 being able to close them out in only five innings. Elise Waddington finished 3-for-4 with a double and home run, while driving in five.
 
Game 2: Ithaca 5, RIT 1 (F)
Mady Rowell closed out the top of the first inning with a strikeout keeping the score 0-0 going into the bottom of the frame. Jessie Lopez would help in getting the Bombers on the board by hitting a single to center field, sending Scheinman home from third. The Bombers would go up 2-0 to end the bottom of the first as Lopez scored on a wild pitch.
 
The Tigers would get on base early with a double during the top of the second inning from Erin Ozminkowski. With a single to right field from Baretela, the Tigers recorded their first run of the game putting the score at 2-1.
 
Belle de Oliveria helped maintain the Bombers 2-1 lead with a sliding catch in center field to close out the top of the third inning. Scheinman would give the Bombers another run after stealing home after a popout. The Tigers started off the top of the fifth inning strong with another single from Baretela. Anna Cavotta followed that up with a base hit right after, but both were left stranded by Rowell.
 
To start of the bottom of the fifth inning, Sela Scheinman hit a single to center field and was soon after hit home with a single by Lopez giving Ithaca a 4-1 lead. With an overthrown on a stolen base attempt to third, Jessie Lopez was able to cross home plate putting the Bombers up by four to close out the inning.
 
IC closed out Senior Day with a 5-1 win that was capped with a diving catch from Waddington in the top of the seventh inning. IC swept the Tigers in a total of 12 innings with Mady Rowell improving to 10-2 overall as she struck out eight, while giving up an unearned run.
 
Next up, Ithaca will wait and see where they are officially seeded for the 2025 Liberty League Softball Championship tournament. The softball championship will take place May 8-10 as the top seed will host with a No. 5 vs. No. 4 play-in game followed by the double elimination tournament.
