ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College tennis team battled to the very end on Friday inside the Reis Tennis Center in a first round Liberty League Championship tournament match against No. 3 seeded RIT. The Tigers ended up prevailing 4-3 and will advance to face No. 2 Hobart on Saturday.
The Tigers jumped out to the early 1-0 lead earning the doubles point by taking two out of the three matchups. In the No. 1 flight,
Siddharth Desai and
Gijs Fidler were able to down the RIT duo of Christian Berko and Grahith Movva. RIT would then take a 3-0 lead, scoring wins at No. 6 singles and No. 2 singles.
Ithaca began mounting its comeback seeing
Emiliano Pedrero win a team point defeating Joel Pho by set scores of 6-4 and 7-5.
Luis Crespo would then score a three-set victory at No. 4 singles as he took down Gabriel Escobar by scores of 4-6, 6-1 and 6-3. Momentum continued as fellow first year
Ivan Kisic roared back after he dropped the first set against Alec Turcotte, 1-6, but would then score 6-3 and 6-4 set wins to make it 3-3. The match came down to another three-setter but Yu Tanimoto would best
Gijs Fidler 7-6 (7-5), 2-6 and 6-2.
The Bombers currently ranked No. 74 conclude their 2024-25 season with a 6-10 overall record.
