ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 23 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team avenged a regular season loss to Vassar College on Tuesday afternoon at Higgins Stadium as the second-seeded Bombers took down the Brewers, 19-10, in a Liberty League First Round matchup. Ithaca is now 11-5 on the season and will host RIT on Friday in the Liberty League Semifinals.
It was a tight, but high-scoring first quarter, that concluded with Ithaca leading, 5-4. Vassar scored the first goal of the contest, but the Bombers answered with three straight from
Lily Cody,
Kelly Augeri and
Elizabeth Green to make it 3-1 IC with 11:48 remaining in the quarter. Vassar would tie the game at 3-3 at the midway point and then the teams traded goals to close out the quarter as Green and Cody scored again.
The second quarter was dominated by the Bombers as they outscored Vassar, 9-1, to take control of the game and head into halftime with a 14-5 lead. Augeri, Green and Cody all notched two goals in the quarter, while
Lexi Kellish,
Kathryn Scallon and
Leigh Naturale all four the back of the net in the nine-goal period.
Over the first 18 minutes of the second half, IC continued to roll and built a 19-6 advantage with just under 12 minutes to go in the game. Kellish, Scallon and Cody once again notched goals, while
Sydney Smith and
Maddie Hall got into the scoring column.
Vassar would end up tallying the final four goals of the contest to account for the 19-10 final.
Mikaela Dattilo played all 60 minutes in cage and stopped six shots in the win.
Gametime for Friday has yet to be determined.
