ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 21 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team wrapped up its regular season at home against Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium and came away with a 19-11 victory on Senior Day. The win elevates IC's overall record to 10-6 and 7-3 in the Liberty League, as well as secure the No. 2 seed in the Liberty League Tournament.
The Bombers will host Vassar College on Tuesday, April 29 in a first round matchup. A victory will grant another home game for IC on Friday, May 2 against the winner of RIT and St. Lawrence. The Liberty League championship game will take place on Sunday, May 4 at the highest seed.
Ithaca never trailed in the game as the Bombers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead from
Elizabeth Green and
Lily Cody. Skidmore would tie the contest at 2-2 with just over six minutes remaining in the quarter, but the Bombers closed out the period on a 3-0 run thanks to goals from Cody, Green and
Kelly Augeri.
Cody put together one of the best games of her career as she notched six goals and one assist for seven points. She also scored four of her goals on free position chances and she won 10 draws, while also scooping up three ground balls.
Augeri also matched Cody with seven points on five goals and two assists in the win.
In the second quarter, Skidmore closed to within a goal at 5-4 within the first five minutes, but the Bombers would take control from there and scored five of the next six goals to take a 10-5 lead to halftime. Augeri and Cody scored during the run, as did
Maddie Hall,
Kathryn Scallon and
Leigh Naturale.
IC continued its momentum into the early stages of the third quarter and went up by eight goals at 14-6 as Scallon, Cody and
Juliana Esposito found the back of the net. Another tally from Augeri made it 15-7 with 20 seconds left, but Skidmore closed out the quarter with just two seconds left for a 15-8 difference.
The fourth quarter was another high-scoring one as the Bombers tallied four goals and the Thoroughbreds notched three for the 19-11 final. Augeri scored twice, while Cody capped off her afternoon with one more and
Hayley Armstrong closed out Senior Day with the final goal of the contest with 1:29 on the clock.
Defensively,
Kaitlyn Russell caused four turnovers, while
Phoebe Hosford and
Maggie Mandel each notched two caused turnovers. Mandel also picked up four ground balls and Russell finished the game with three.
Mikaela Dattilo made 10 saves in the victory.
