LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Ithaca College baseball team began its Spring Break trip with a 5-3 victory over Arcadia University on Sunday as the Bombers broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the ninth inning to pull of the win. Ithaca is now 5-2 on the season.
Arcadia struck first with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning as a lead off single moved into scoring position on a stolen base.
The score remained 1-0 until Ithaca plated two runs on the top of the fifth as
Camden Laney drove home
Tyler Pugliese with a bases loaded sacrifice fly.
Connor Pedersen then scored from second base on a failed pick off attempt that allowed him to advance two bases.
Ithaca tacked on another run in the top of the seventh with an
Ethan McDonough solo home run, but Arcadia knotted the contest at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom half on a sac fly and fielder's choice.
In the top of the ninth, Ithaca capitalized on multiple Arcadia errors to produce two runs.
Colin Dunn scored on a wild pitch and the
Sheldon Jay Walker III came home on an error.
McDonough and Pedersen went 3-for-5 on the day, while
Andrew McDermott and
Ryan Laubscher both collected two hits.
Colin Leyner tossed 7.0 innings in a no-decision with four strikeouts and
John Griffin did not allow a hit in two innings of relief with two strikeouts.
The Bombers are scheduled to play No. 16 Baldin Wallace tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., but the weather forecast is not looking favorable at this time.
