Gymnastics Places Third at NCGA East Region Championship

BROCKPORT, N.Y. –
The Ithaca College gymnastics team traveled to SUNY Brockport on Saturday to compete in the NCGA East Region Championship for an opportunity to qualify for the NCGA National Championship meet in two weeks. Despite posting their second-best score of the season with 191.625, the Bombers finished third out of seven teams.

Brockport won the meet with 192.525 and Cortland was second at 192.050 to earn the East's two automatic qualifiers. Ithaca will now wait and find out which individuals will qualify for the national meet tomorrow evening.

Ithaca was consistent all meet, scoring over 47.450 on each event. Of 24 routines, only two scores were below 9.000.

The Bombers started on floor and turned in their top score of the meet with 48.175. Abby Chesshire led the way with 9.750, while Corey Foster and Grace Murray each earned 9.650. Caitlin Pellegrino received 9.575 and Hana Miller posted a routine of 9.550.

IC then moved over to vault and posted its best score of the season with 47.975. Murray was the top performer with 9.750 and Natalie Steed was next in line with 9.650. Mya John was shown 9.575 and Lauren Babineaux was awarded 9.550. Madelynn Farragher also factored into the scoring with 9.450.

The Bombers continued that momentum into bars to earn 47.450 as John paced the rotation with 9.725 and Babineaux was close behind with 9.700. Kaylie Goodwin turned in a routine of 9.400, while Marlena Bailey earned 9.300 and Sienna Blake received 9.275.

Ithaca wrapped up the meet on beam and posted another season-high with 48.025. Goodwin and Emily Kobusky were both awarded 9.775 and John landed with 9.675. Foster received 9.625, while Steed and Pellegrino rounded out the rotation with 9.225 and 9.200.

Five Bombers reached the podium on Saturday. John was third on bars, while Murray tied for third on vault and Babineaux took fourth on bars. Kobusky and Goodwin tied for fifth on beam.
