No. 16 Women’s Lacrosse Downs Rochester, 12-10

ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 16 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team squeaked by the University of Rochester, 12-10, in a snowy Liberty League matchup at Higgins Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Bombers are now 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Liberty League.

IC dominated play early on and jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. Lily Cody scored twice over the opening 15 minutes of action and assisted on another goal, which was scored by Kelly Augeri. Elizabeth Green tallied the first goal on the contest and Katelyn Ikle capped off the quarter with her first goal of the year.

It was an even second quarter as both teams notched three goals apiece and the Bombers took an 8-4 advantage into the break. Hayley Armstrong answered an early UR goal in the period to make it 6-2, but the Yellowjackets pulled to within a 6-4 score with just over two minutes remaining. The Bombers then received goals from Kathryn Scallon on an advantage with :58 left, and Leigh Naturale scored at the buzzer off a feed from Green.

In the third quarter, Naturale scored in the opening minute but that was all the offense for IC as Rochester gained control and trimmed the difference down to 9-6 heading to the final quarter of action.

The Bombers went up 11-6 less than four minutes into the quarter as Phoebe Hosford notched her first career goal and Cody followed with her hat trick with 11:27 on the clock. However, UR went on a 4-0 run over the next four-plus minutes to climb back to within a 11-10 difference with seven minutes left, but IC did not surrender a goal the rest of the way and Lexi Kellish put home an insurance goal in the final minute to account for the 12-10 final.

Mikaela Dattilo and Jocelyn Cote split time in cage as the duo combined for 10 saves.

Ithaca heads to Union College on Saturday for a 12 p.m. contest.
