Green Tallies Six Goals to Lead No. 16 Women’s Lacrosse Past RIT, 16-12

ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 16 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team opened Liberty League play with a 16-12 home victory over RIT on Saturday at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers are now 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Liberty League and extend their winning streak over the Tigers to 11 straight games.

RIT score the game's first goal less than two minutes into the contest, but the remainder of the contest was controlled by IC. Three minutes later, Elizabeth Green scored the first of her six goals on the day to tie the game at 1-1 and then she gave the Bombers the lead with just over eight minutes to go as she tallied a hat trick in the first quarter. Ithaca led, 3-2, after 15 minutes of action.

The Bombers then went up, 6-2, nearly four minutes into the third quarter as Hayley Armstrong scored on an advantage goal off a pass from Lily Cody, and then Green took a pass from Armstrong less than two minutes later to make it 5-2. It took the Bombers just 30 seconds to put another goal on the board as Kelly Augeri scored unassisted.

The league foes would combine for 12 more goals in the quarter as the Bombers took a 12-7 lead into intermission. RIT pulled to within a pair of goals on two different occasions in the quarter, 6-4 and 8-6, but Ithaca went on a 4-0 run beginning at the 4:17 mark to establish its largest lead of the day at 12-6.

Lexi Kellish, Augeri, Cody and Armstrong scored during that run, but RIT snuck in a goal with just three seconds left to account for the 12-7 halftime score. Juliana Espositio also scored a goal for IC in the second quarter.

Goals were traded in the third quarter as Armstrong and Green scored for the Bombers to make it 14-9 with just 15 minutes left in the matchup.

Cody and Green accounted for the Bombers' two goals in the fourth period, and led by a 16-10 count before the Tigers scored two goals in the final minute of play for the 16-12 final.

Armstrong notched seven points on four goals and three assists, to go along with three ground balls. Green added two ground balls, a caused turnover and draw control, while Cody won four draws.

Defensively, Kaitlyn Russell tallied four ground balls and two caused turnovers and Gabrielle Crellin tallied three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
