Men’s Lacrosse Power Past Widener, 16-4

ITHACA, NY– On a cold and blustery Saturday with the real feel temperature being below 10 degrees Fahrenheit, the Ithaca College men's lacrosse team found a way to win, dominating the Widener University Pride with a final score of 16-4. Ithaca improves to 2-1 on the season while Widener falls to 0-4.

Despite the lopsided win, the game was knotted at 1-1 early as Jack Pastore scored the opening goal for the Bombers and just a minute later, Bryant Maits tied things up for the Pride, five minutes into the matchup. The Bombers would rattle off the next three goals of the quarter with Tim Rogers, Michael Gillam and Kyle Proctor finding twine, giving Ithaca a 4-1 lead heading into the second.

Matt Horgan scored the opening goal of the second quarter for Widener cutting the Bombers lead to 4-2. Ithaca again would get hot on offense, netting next four in the frame with Sam Baker and Lucas Proctor scoring two each. The Bombers led 8-2 as they headed inside for an extended halftime to warm up amidst the below freezing temperatures.

The second half played out exactly the same as the first with Ithaca outscoring Widener 3-1 and 5-1 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively bringing home the 16-4 win. Eight offensive players for the Bombers had two or more points, with sophomore Lucas Proctor leading the way with a career-best four goals and an assist and Ethan Adrid chipped in four assists.

Chris Sohl went 14-of-15 from the faceoff circle, and Andrew Minard was stout in net once again allowing only four goals and making five saves. The junior faced 15 shots and lowered his goals against average to 7.31, through the first three games of the season. The Bombers played a complete game once again and an impressive combination of shutdown defense with explosive offense led to the lopsided score.

Next up, Ithaca College will be on the road on Wednesday, March 5 at 4 p.m. when they take the short trip to Rochester to take on Nazareth University.
