No. 11 Women's Lacrosse Dominates Brockport in Season Opener, 11-3

ITHACA, N.Y. - In their highly anticipated first game of the season, the nationally ranked No. 11 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team squared off against the visiting SUNY Brockport, with the Bombers coming away with a dominant win in an 11-3 final at Higgins Stadium on Sunday.

The game started out slow offensively and was a defensive battle, with no goal until ten minutes into the quarter. Ithaca opened the scoring with back-to-back goals by Kathryn Scallon and Lily Cody. With a minute and 31 left on the clock in the first, Brockport scored their first goal of the game, with Ithaca scoring one right back by Hayley Armstrong, who took a pass by Kelly Augeri

The game stayed close in the second with both teams scoring two goals apiece, with goals by Leigh Naturale and Elizabeth Green, who was assisted by Hayley Armstrong. At the half, the score was 5-3, with the Bombers still on top. 

Ithaca dominated the second half, tallying six unanswered goals, with Lily Cody and Kathryn Scallon going on to score two more goals respectively. They lead the offense with three goals and three points apiece. Armstrong and Green added onto the scoring frenzy as well in the fourth with a goal apiece.

Armstrong showcased her play making skills with three assists, two ground balls, along with two goals to add onto her great performance. Augeri also showed her play making abilities with two assists and two ground balls of her own. 

Defense is another category Ithaca looked dominant all game. Goalkeeper Mikaela Dattilo recorded six saves, as well as 10 turnovers by Ithaca players throughout the game, three by Olivia Puppo and Cody, two by Phoebe Hosford, and Gabrielle Crellin and Naturale with one a piece. 

Ithaca's dominant offensive second half helped them take over the game and lead them to an 11-3 victory in a very strong season opener. 

Looking ahead, Ithaca looks towards their next matchup, where they will host SUNY Cortland on Saturday, March 1st at 3:00 PM.
