POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's basketball team extended their win streak to 13 games in a row, beating the Clarkson University Golden Knights,71-56. The Bombers improved to 16-7 on the season and 15-1 in Liberty League play.
The Bombers got off to a slow start, falling behind 4-0 early in the game to a pair of free throws and layup. However,
Annabella Yorio matched them with a pair of free throws of her own, followed by a three-pointer from
Emma Waite to take the lead 5-4. Ithaca mostly took control of the half from there building there lead to 13 points, leading 32-19.
Towards the end of the half the Bombers started to lose control of the game with the Golden Knights closing the gap very quickly to bring the score to 34-29 at half time. This included a seven-point run from the Golden Knights in the last 35 seconds of the half.
The Bombers were especially dominant from beyond the arc in the first half, shooting four for eight.
Emma Waite and
Tori Drevna each made two three-pointers in the half. The Bombers also shot 12-for-28 from field goal range in the half.
Throughout the third quarter and start of the second quarter the Bombers kept Clarkson at bay, as they never relinquished the lead. However, the Golden Knights kept it close throughout the half with a lot of back-and-forth play. The Golden Knights managed to get within one point of the Bombers numerous times, but every time they did the Bombers would counter with points of their own.
Halfway into the fourth quarter the Bombers would take total control of the game, as they got 13 of the last 15 points. The run started with the Bombers leading 58-54, and
Zoraida Icabalceta led the way getting six of the Bombers 13 points with a jumper, layup, and two three throws to bring the Bombers to a final score of 71-56.
The Bombers had five players record double digit points including Icabalceta who led the team with 15 points and
Emma Waite who had 14 points. As a team the Bombers shot 26-for-58 from field goal range and 6-fo- 19 from beyond the arc.
The Bombers are in action again on the road on Friday 5:30 p.m. against Bard College in a Liberty League matchup.
