BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team battled back from an early deficit but fell short in a hard-fought 80–75 loss to Brockport on Saturday afternoon.
Brockport opened the game on a 6–0 run just 90 seconds in, forcing Ithaca to call an early timeout. The Bombers got on the board with a three-pointer from
Tori Drevna at the 7:31 mark, but the Golden Eagles extended their lead to 16–3 midway through the first quarter. Ithaca responded with back-to-back threes from
Simone Pintinalli and
Kenzie Perluke, followed by baskets from Perluke and
Aila Dervisevic to close the gap. Despite the rally, Brockport held a 24–21 lead after one.
The second quarter began with a Brockport three-pointer before
Natalie Tucker answered with a jumper off a feed from
Madalyn Barrows. Barrows added a basket of her own, and
Grace McNamara connected with
Lily Wohlleber for a layup late in the half, but Brockport maintained control and led 40–32 at the break. At halftime, Drevna paced Ithaca with eight points, while Perluke added seven.
Grace McNamara led the team with six rebounds as Ithaca held advantages in assists (12) and offensive boards (10).
Ithaca chipped away in the third quarter, starting with an
Avery McPeek jumper off a Barrows assist. A key sequence came at the six-minute mark when McPeek forced a steal and Tucker scored in transition to pull within four at 47–43. Wohlleber tied the game at 47–47 with 4:08 remaining, but Brockport regained the lead and carried a 61–58 edge into the fourth.
McNamara opened the final quarter with a basket to make it a one-point game, and Barrows gave Ithaca its first lead of the night with a three-pointer at the 8:01 mark. The teams traded blows down the stretch, with Barrows tying the game at 69–69 and later hitting another three to put Ithaca ahead 72–71 with 2:40 left. Brockport answered with late free throws and a jumper to build a five-point cushion. Barrows drilled one more three with 15 seconds remaining, but the Bombers came up short, 80–75.
Madalyn Barrows led Ithaca with 13 points, while Drevna added 12.
Madison Gill dished out a team-high five assists, and Tucker and Barrows each recorded three steals to highlight the Bombers' defensive effort.
With the loss, the Bombers fall to 2-3 overall and will make their first appearance inside Ben Light Gymnasium in their next contest on Tuesday, December 2 at 5:30 p.m. against the University of Rochester.
