No. 12 Ithaca Volleyball Sweeps Bard to Clinch Liberty League Title, Extends Win Streak to 18 with Victory Over NJCU

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The No. 12 Ithaca College volleyball team clinched the 2025 Liberty League regular season title on Saturday with a dominant 3–0 sweep of Bard College, then extended its winning streak to 18 matches by defeating New Jersey City University in straight sets.

NO. 12 ITHACA 3, BARD 0 (25-9. 25-10, 25-9)
The opening set began evenly, with the teams tied at 4–4, before the Bombers erupted for a 7–0 run behind three service aces from Brianna Owen. Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu delivered a powerful kill out of a timeout to extend the lead to 12–4. Owen continued her service run until Bard finally broke through with a kill from Paola De La Cruz, making it 17–5. Ithaca closed out the set 25–9, powered by an 11-point service run from Owen.

The Bombers carried that momentum into the second set, opening with a 14–4 run highlighted by three consecutive kills from Addison Leadbetter and another from Owen. Ithaca sealed the set with four straight points, including a kill from Naom Clauhs, another from Gonzalez-Abreu, and a pair of Bard attacking errors. IC recorded a match-high 14 kills in the frame.

In the third set, Leadbetter's strong serving helped Ithaca build a commanding 21–5 lead. The Bombers continued to apply pressure with kills from Clauhs and Ella Graper, keeping the Raptors off balance. A final Bard attacking error secured the 25–9 set win and the match sweep.

NO. 12 ITHACA 3, NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY 0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-12)
The opening set was a back-and-forth battle early, but Ithaca's consistent offensive attack allowed the Bombers to maintain control throughout. Key kills from Naomi Clauhs and Brianna Owen helped IC build an early lead. Midway through the set, the Bombers went on a 4–0 run to extend their advantage to 16–9. Although NJCU responded with a few strong kills, Ithaca remained composed. A well-placed assist from Wesley Slavin set up a kill by Clauhs to close out the first set, 25–16.

The second set was tightly contested, featuring ties at 3–3 and 5–5. Slavin opened the frame with an ace, while Owen continued to lead the offensive charge. Addison Leadbetter sparked a 4–0 run with back-to-back aces, forcing a timeout from NJCU as the Bombers pulled ahead by five. The Knights responded with a surge of their own, led by three consecutive kills from Kai Fitzpatrick, eventually tying the set at 22–22. The teams traded points down the stretch, with ties at 23–23, 24–24, and 25–25. Ithaca ultimately prevailed, 27–25, thanks to a clutch kill from Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu and a match-sealing service ace from Ellie Benedict.

The third set was all Ithaca. Early kills from Owen and Clauhs set the tone, and the Bombers began to pull away midway through the set. Strong defense and service aces from Benedict and Slavin fueled a 10–0 run that propelled IC to a commanding 25–12 win, completing the sweep.

The Bombers will now travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for the Emory Invitational, where they'll face No. 16 Emory University, Randolph-Macon College, and No. 24 Washington and Lee University.
