ITHACA, N.Y. - The nationally ranked No. 19 Ithaca College men's soccer team fell to Skidmore College, 1–0, on Saturday afternoon on Carp Wood Field. The Bombers now sit at 6–2–2 on the season.
Ithaca opened the match with immediate offensive pressure, as
Ikey Borden forced an early save with a header on target. A few minutes later,
Bryson Shaull made his first stop of the game, corralling a bouncing shot off a free kick from close range. Both teams traded chances throughout the remainder of the half, but neither side was able to convert.
Just three minutes into the second half, Skidmore narrowly missed wide right on a shot. The Thoroughbreds broke the scoreless tie in the 56th minute when Matthew Rubin sent a cross to Connor Mansfield, who finished the play with a goal.
Andrew Kusek nearly equalized for the Bombers in the 66th minute, launching a shot just over the crossbar. Ithaca continued to press, with
Liam Breslin's attempt blocked and Kusek sending another shot high. Breslin had another dangerous opportunity for an equalizer off a corner kick, but his shot struck the crossbar.
In the 76th minute,
Cameron Wooten tried to redirect a free kick on goal, but his effort sailed over the net. Moments later,
Nick Dignazio's header rolled toward the corner, but a diving save preserved Skidmore's lead.
Drew Warren found a loose ball in front and fired a shot that was blocked and deflected out of play. In the 82nd minute,
Emmett Enriquez sent a bouncing shot just inches wide of the left post. Enriquez had one final chance late in the match, but his attempt was lifted over the net.
The Bombers return to action on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. for a Liberty League matchup against nationally ranked No. 25 Hobart College. It's the final home matchup before Ithaca embarks on a four-match road trip all against conference opponents.
