Schenectady, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's soccer team traveled to Schenectady to face the Union College Garnet Chargers. Despite outshooting the Garnet Chargers 19-11, including placing 10 shots on target, the Bombers left the pitch with a 2-1 loss and dropped their sixth-straight match.
Ithaca came out hungry, getting four shots (one on target) in the first 15 minutes, while holding Union to zero shots. They got a good chance in the 12th minute when
Andrew Kusek broke down the left side but sent the ball off target to the left.
However, Union quickly bounced back and set up a play on the left wing which ended in a through pass from Justin Ely to Matt Guiliano. Guiliano struck a long ball to the right which went over
Brayden Milbrandt's head and into the net for a 1-0 lead.
After multiple pushes into the final third and a shot on target from
Kloden Rapp, Ithaca struck back in the 37th minute when Milbrandt sent a goal kick down field which bounced off
Ikey Borden's head into
Trevor Barrett foot who dribbled the ball and sent it past Union's goalkeeper Jacob Perry with ease. Barrett, a first year, has now scored two goals in the last two games.
Union quickly broke the tie in the 43rd minute when Eamonn Kelly sent a pass up the middle, and Gavin Blake muscled past his defender to win the ball and scored. In the first half, Ithaca outshot Union 10-4, however they went into halftime with a 2-1 deficit.
Both teams came into the second half with the same energy each getting four shots in the first 20 minutes.
Ithaca saw its best chance to equalize in the 86th minute when
Nathan Waychoff found the ball in the middle of the box. He shot the ball on target but Perry dived and saved the ball. Despite six shots on target in the second half, Ithaca came up empty handed.
