Jackson Gray Surpasses 100 Career Wins at the John Reece Duals

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Ithaca College men's wrestling team had a quick turnaround after a nationally ranked showdown on Friday evening, the Bombers took on both Wilkes University and Muhlenberg College on Saturday as part of the John Reece Duals that was hosted in the Marts Center. The Bombers were able improve to 11-2 overall as they scored a 32-18 victory over the hosts Wilkes Colonels and also defeated Muhlenberg via a team score of 39-15.

After dropping the bout at 125 lbs., Ithaca got on the board with Isaias Torres returning to form as he took a couple strong shots, and his opponent Michael Richardson was injured at 1:06 with Torres picking up the win. Next up, Matt Haycook was able to score a 4-1 decision over Ben Grater that boosted the Bombers team lead to 9-4. After suffering a tough loss on Friday, Wenchard Pierre-Louis avenged that by scoring a dominant 20-3 tech fall over his opponent.
 
The Bombers really showed their strength at 165 lbs., 174 lbs., and 197 lbs. as Konrad Parker, Jackson Gray and Xavier Pommells each earned pins over their opponents. The fall at 1:12 over Melquan Warren for Gray marked career win 100, which ties him for the 26th most wins in program history. The Colonels fell to 9-7 overall on the season in duals but were able to pick up wins in the final two weight classes, which included IC forfeiting at 285 for the 32-18 win.

The Bombers were down early (9-6) as Tomah Gummow fell in a 5-0 decision and Will Bentrim was pinned (6:50) by the Mules grappler Andrew Loniewski. However, Isaias Torres was able to dispatch his opponent Frank DiEsso by pinning him in 4:55, which helped right the ship for IC. Wenchard Pierre-Louis and Brian Bienus followed suit as they also earned six team points apiece earning pin fall wins over Alexander Greco (4:00) and Charles Levine (4:17), respectively. Konrad Parker improved to an impressive 22-2 on the season as he wrestled in just his third bout in just about a month and he produced a pin over the Mules Logan Hurwitt in 2:19.
 
Jackson Gray was clinical in his bout against Payce Lamb as he scored on a pair of takedowns, as well as a close near fall and shutout his opponent in the 15-0 tech fall. Eamon Callaghan again got the starting nod at 197 lbs., but he would succumb to Noah Schlofer via a fall at 1:09 as the Bombers once again forfeited the 285 lbs. division.
 
Next up, Ithaca College will compete in the Williams College Quad against Oneonta, Wesleyan University and Williams College on February 8 with wrestling slated to begin at 12 p.m.
