Women’s Basketball Pick Up a Road Victory at William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team halted a four-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon with the Bombers picking up a 48-24 Liberty League win over William Smith. First year Madison Gill led the scoring efforts with nine points and Aila Dervisevic went 2-of-6 from downtown and chipped in six points as the Bombers saw 32 bench points scored.

Over halfway through the opening quarter Elizabeth Majka drove to the basket and converted on a layup that put the Bombers up 4-3. Madison Gill and Annabella Yorio each knocked down a pair from the free throw line to extend the IC lead as Gill also hit a 3-pointer with under 10 seconds in the quarter to go up 11-3.

The Bombers scoring run extended into the second quarter with Jillian Payne assisting on an Anya Watkins layup and they would extend it again to 10 points (15-5) when Tori Drevna knocked down a pull up 3-pointer. Ithaca held the Herons to just four points in the quarter and outscored them by 11 as Aila Dervisevic recorded the last points of the half on a trey putting her team up 24-7. Madison Gill netted seven points within the opening half as the Bombers held William Smith to 10.3% shooting from the floor while knocking down 21.2%.

Ithaca opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run that was capped with Anya Watkins assisting on a Madison Gill layup. Watkins knocked down a pair from the charity stripe with under five minutes to go and a Dervisevic 3-pointer put the Bombers up 36-9. Just one basket was scored during the final 3:36 of the period and that was netted by William Smith's JoJo Sulmasy.

The fourth quarter saw the most combined points scored between the teams with 25 total. The Bombers played strong defense as they shutdown each comeback attempt as they ended up scoring the final bucket on an and-one from Natalie Tucker for the 48-24 final.

With the win, Ithaca improves to 4-7 overall and 3-1 within Liberty League action. The Bombers return to action on Tuesday evening with their final road game at RIT before a two-game weekend homestand. Tip-off against the Tigers is slated for 5:30 p.m.
