Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second Half Comeback Falls Short in Loss to No. 10 Cortland

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team hosted the No. 10 ranked Cortland Red Dragons on Wednesday afternoon. Despite a late push with a goal in the 87th minute, the Bombers fell short, losing 2-1. This non-conference loss drops the Bombers to 4-2 overall, while the Red Dragons improve to 6-1-1.

Cortland struck early, with Jake Chung scoring in the second minute. Jordan Miller's long throw was nodded on by Mateo Marra and headed past Ithaca's goalkeeper, Brayden Milbrandt.

Milbrandt, making his fourth consecutive start, made a crucial save in the 20th minute, tipping a Marra free kick over the bar. The Bombers had two good chances to equalize before halftime: Myles Ryan's header in the 40th minute sailed just over the bar, and Andrew Kusek's shot from the right side of the box was saved by Jordan Ott. Cortland led 1-0 at halftime.

The Red Dragons doubled their lead in the 77th minute when Matt Shultz dribbled past the Bombers defensive backline and beat Milbrandt in a one-on-one situation and slotted the ball home. Ithaca pressed hard for a goal and was rewarded with 3:09 remaining. Riley Donelan's long throw found Ikey Borden, who headed it to Jared Krasnove. Krasnove smashed it into the net for his second goal of the season.

Cortland managed to maintain possession in the closing minutes to secure the 2-1 win. They outshot Ithaca 21-13, with 10 shots on target. Milbrandt recorded eight saves.

Next, Ithaca College will begin Liberty League play with an away match at Hobart on Tuesday, September 24, at 4 p.m.
