ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College men's tennis team competed against Vassar College in the quarterfinals of the Liberty League Championships on Friday afternoon at nearby Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University, dropping to the Brewers 5-0.
The Brewers took all three of the doubles matchups, quickly jumping out to a 3-0 lead. The most competitive matchup was in the No. 2 slot with
Nicolas Luis and
Siddharth Vaada teaming but falling to Nolan Kubiak and Henry Zhang by an 8-6 score. At No. 1 doubles,
Gijs Fidler and
Emiliano Pedrero dropped an 8-4 score.
Vassar needed just two wins in singles action to clinch the match and were able to get to a good start at that with Eugune Lee besting
Carlos Hernandez at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-3. The Brewers ended up clinching with Henry Zhang defeating
Jacob Wachs by set scores of 6-0 and 6-1 at No. 6 singles. The rest of the singles bouts were left unfinished.
The loss ended the Bombers season, finishing with a 7-12 record and a 3-5 Liberty League mark, clinching spot in the Liberty League Championships for the first time since the 2018-19 season. Vassar will move on to take on the second seeded Hobart College Statesmen on Saturday morning.
