Haley Petrucci Connects on Two More Homers; Ithaca Splits with Alfred

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team was back in action on Tuesday afternoon hosting the Alfred University Saxons for a non-conference doubleheader on Kostrinsky Field. The Bombers saw Haley Petrucci smash a pair of homers as they won 8-0 in the first game and then fell 11-0 in the nightcap as both games ended in six innings. With the split, the Bombers improved to 16-6 overall.

Ithaca 8, Alfred University (F-6)
After allowing a lead-off single, Anna Cornell settled in and struck out a pair of batters in the opening stanza. Just like the top of the inning, the lead-off hitter Sela Scheinman got on base as she slapped a single right back up the middle. She advanced to third with two-outs and it took a big-time diving catch from the Saxons centerfielder to rob Elise Waddington of a single and kept the game scoreless.

The top of the second was quick with no runs no hits and no errors, finishing the third out with an Anna Cornell strike out. Haley Petrucci opened up the bottom of the second with her tenth run of the season, which currently ranks tied for first within Division III. With Petrucci's solo shot, the Bombers led 1-0 going into the third.

The Saxons threatened putting runners on second and third but once again Anna Cornell was up to her game as she struck out Meghan Neto to end the inning keeping the Bombers up 1-0. The Bombers added to their lead in the bottom of the third with Elise Waddington driving home Sela Scheinman on a line drive single to left field. Petrucci added her second RBI of the game on a single as Jessie Lopez scored on the play making it 3-0.

IC added two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth frame with Waddington driving home Jessie Lopez and Belle de Oliveira. Anna Cornell continued to dominate picking up her eight strikeout of the afternoon in the top of the sixth continuing her shutout. In the bottom half of the inning IC ended up making it 6-0 with Hudson Hassler crossing home plate when Waddington ripped a double to left center.

The Bombers ended up walking off with Haley Petrucci connecting on a two-run home run, her second of the day, and 11th on the season.

Alfred 11, Ithaca 0 (F-6)
The Saxons opened up the nightcap with Mya Wells blasting a home run over the right field fence that was followed up by another homer this time off the bat of Jessica Remm putting them up 2-0. After giving up both homers Mady Rowell was relieved by Taylor Brunn. Alfred ended up plating another two runs to go up 4-0 after the top of the first inning.

IC managed a lead-off single from Sela Scheinman but wasn't able to do anything with it as they left two runners stranded to end the first. Alfred ended up plating another run when Mya Wells managed an RBI double making it 5-0 in favor of the Saxons.

Megan Bennet continued to quiet the Bombers bats and her Saxons ended up adding two more insurance runs to push their advantage to 7-0. Abigail Gatza blasted a three run homer against Taylor Brunn to make it 10-0. The Saxons ended up plating three more runs to make it 11-0 at the end of the sixth inning.

Ithaca wasn't able to mount a rally in the bottom half of the frame as the team finished with three hits.

The Bombers will return to Liberty League action for its next doubleheader that will be played at Kostrinsky Field on Friday against No. 18 RPI. Game times are slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
