CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team played Elmira College at the Gutchess Sports Complex in Cortland on Tuesday afternoon, March 5, and came away with a 10-1 non-conference victory. Ithaca has now won three straight games and is 3-2 overall heading into its spring break trip to South Carolina.

The IC offense produced 13 hits in the win, including four that went for extra bases, while the pitching staff surrendered just six hits and struck out 13.

Jack Picozzi hit the first two batters he faced on consecutive pitches and walked another to load the bases with one out, but ended up getting out of the inning unscathed as he struck out two more looking.

The Bombers took a 1-0 in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly to left by Matt Curtis to drive in Collin Feeney, who reached on a lead off walk and moved up two bases on a failed pick off attempt.

Camden Laney led off the second with a triple to left-center and scored on a bloop single by Tyler Pugliese to make it 2-0. Ethan Rothstein then belted a home run to dead center to extend IC's lead to 3-0.

Elmira got on the board with a bases loaded single to left with one out in the third to pull to within 3-1, but Picozzi left the bases full with back-to-back strikeouts.

Picozzi threw 5.0 solid innings with seven strikeouts and just three hits allowed.

IC's lead grew to 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single up the middle by Colin Shashaty to push home Curtis and the Laney doubled down the right field line to plate Matt Fabian. A few pitches later, Pugliese roped a sac fly to center and bring home Shashaty to cap off the three-run frame.

The Bombers tacked on another run, 7-1, in the sixth on a line drive sac fly to left by Louis Fabbo that brought in Ethan McDonough, who beat out an infield single to start things off.

Another sac fly in the seventh, this time from Rothstein to drive in Shashaty gave the Bombers a seven-run cushion at 8-1. McDonough then drove home Laney with a single through the left side and Feeney followed with an RBI double to left-center to plate Pugliese, making it 10-1 for the eventual final score.

Laney was a home run away from the cycle as he went 3-for-5, while McDonough was 3-for-3 with a stolen base. Pugliese went 2-for-3, while Luca Pipia notched a pinch-hit single.
