Ithaca Softball Sweeps SUNY Geneseo on Saturday

GENESEO, N.Y. - The Ithaca College softball team took on the Knights of SUNY Geneseo in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30. The bats came out hot and stayed that way with Ithaca winning both games against the Knights (7-3) and (13-0). With Saturday's road sweep, the Bombers improved to 13-5 overall as they will begin Liberty League play with their next doubleheader.

Ithaca 7, Geneseo 3 (F)

Ithaca started off the game strong with a Sela Scheinman leadoff triple to left center. Jessie Lopez singled up the middle which led to a Scheinman score. The Bombers ended the first inning with a 6-0 lead. Hudson Hassler would rip a double that drove in Lopez that was followed up by another double, this time off the bat of Haley Petrucci. Sydney Miranda picked up an RBI single that made it 4-0 and Belle de Oliveira drove in a pair to complete the scoring as IC knocked out the Geneseo starting pitcher within the frame.

In the second inning the Bombers only saw Hudson Hassler get on base with a single up the middle, but she was left stranded. Anna Cornell continued to deal in the pitching circle striking out two within the inning.

The Bombers didn't score again until the fifth inning on a Miranda sacrifice fly, allowing Petrucci to score.

The sixth inning was a solid one for the Knights, with three runs to put them on the scoreboard for the first time. Ainsley Rogers came out of the bullpen to pitch the bottom of the seventh and she was flawless striking out the side.

Both Hudson Hassler and Haley Petrucci each went 2-for-4 at the plate as Anna Cornell picked up her sixth win of the season.

Ithaca 13, Geneseo 0 (F-5)

In the second game of the doubleheader the Bombers started off strong again with a score from Sela Scheinman from a Jessie Lopez single up the middle. The Bombers ended the first inning with one run and one hit. In the second inning the Bombers capitalized off of an Elise Waddington double to left field. The Bombers scored 8 consecutive runs without any strikeouts. Recording an RBI within the frame included Kailen Winkelblech, Taylor Andrews, Sela Scheinman, Jessie Lopez, Hudson Hassler and Waddington

It was a slow third inning for the Bombers, only scoring one run from Taylor Andrews who was driven in when Scheinman smacked a double to right center field. The fourth inning was slow for both teams, with neither of them scoring as Taylor Brunn was dealing in the pitching circle. The fifth inning was solid for the Bombers, scoring four total runs from Andrews, Comolli, Hassler, and Petrucci as within the inning Sela Scheinman drove in three with her home run that sailed over the left field fence.

The Geneseo Knights struggled to get on base and score all game as Taylor Brunn went 4.0 innings allowing one hit, while striking out two. Mady Rowell pitched the fifth and final inning as the Bombers ended up run-ruling the Knights by a 13-0 final.

Ithaca College will travel to Schenectady, N.Y. for its next doubleheader against Liberty League foe Union College on Saturday, April 6. First pitch is slated for 1 and 3 p.m.
