No. 20 Women’s Lacrosse Posts 21-10 Win at Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The No. 20 ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team traveled to face Liberty League rival Rochester in their second game of Liberty League action, defeating the Yellowjackets 21-10 thanks to a scoring explosion in the third quarter. Ithaca is now 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Liberty League.
 
Caroline Wise netted six goals for Ithaca along with five assists to lead the team in both categories. Three Bombers scored at least three goals on the afternoon, while Lexi Held collected four saves on the day. 
 
The Bombers started the game off on the right foot, as Caroline Wise found the back of the net 45 seconds into the first quarter as Ithaca jumped out to a 1-0 lead early. Ithaca applied pressure on the Yellowjackets to score three goals in the span of a minute, as Maizy Veitch, Sydney Phillips and Wise were able to bring the Bombers a 4-0 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the first. 
 
The Bombers kept up the momentum in the first quarter, as Phillips, Veitch and Wise struck again, giving Ithaca seven goals in the first nine minutes. Rochester found the footing and strung together five goals of their own to end the quarter, as the Bombers took a 7-5 lead going into the second frame.
 
The Yellowjackets started the second quarter with two goals in two minutes to tie the game at seven before Veitch scored a free position goal for the Bombers to regain the lead at 8-7 Ithaca. Rochester would even the score on a free position goal of their own.
 
The Bombers would respond in kind, as Wise notched another goal to give the Bombers the lead with eight minutes to play in the second quarter. Phillips would score herself just eight seconds later, as the Bombers pulled ahead of the Yellowjackets with a 10-8 score. Ithaca kept the scoring up on Rochester, as Lexi Kellish scored a minute later to make it an 11-8 Ithaca lead. 
 
The Bombers would add two more goals from Kellish and Juliana Esposito to take a 13-8 lead before Rochester would add their next goal, as the Bombers took a 13-9 lead into the second half. 
 
Ithaca would start the second half off strong, as Veitch and Phillips combined to give the Bombers a 15-9 lead within a minute of each other. Phillips would add another free position goal for her fifth score of the day, extending the Ithaca lead to 16-9. 
 
Nordyke, Wise, and Veitch closed out the third quarter with a goal each as the Bombers held the Yellowjackets scoreless in the third frame, taking a 19-9 lead heading into the fourth quarter of action. 
 
Wise and Lily Cody would score the final goals for the Bombers in the fourth quarter, as Ithaca would take a 21-9 lead over the Yellowjackets halfway through the final frame. Rochester would add one with six minutes remaining to end the game with a 21-10 score. 
 
The Bombers return home on Saturday, March 30th to take on Union in a Liberty League matchup.
