BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's lacrosse team came out on top this Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup for their second game of the season as the Bombers defeated Brockport, 16-12. This win now makes the Bombers 2-0 to start off the season.
Coming off a huge win against Scranton, Ithaca came out hungry for another win scoring five goals in the first quarter.
Caroline Wise highlighted the offense this period scoring two of those five goals along with an assist. Other goal scorers this 1
st period, in order, included
Sydney Phillips,
Chloe Nordyke and
Maddie Hall. Brockport only trailed three points behind with goals from Paige Thowe and Tristan Davis. However, the Bombers outshot the Golden Eagles 11-6. On top of leading goals and shots Ithaca lead in ground balls 5-4 as well as draw controls 5-3.
In the second quarter the Bombers offense continued to connect and find the back of the net. Having two less shots than the last quarter, they still were able to score five times to broaden their lead. Wise recorded another goal alongside
Maizy Veitch,
Lily Cody,
Leigh Naturale and
Lexi Kellish. With the Bomber defense and senior goalie
Lexi Held stopping Brockport's offense they withheld them to only two more goals, giving Ithaca a 10-4 lead going into halftime.
The Bombers offense slowed down in the third quarter, putting up three goals off ten total shots. Wise netted her fourth goal and Veitch and Hall both scored their second on the day. However, Brockport was still in the game, also putting up three goals this quarter with a goal from Sarah Kilburn and two from Alayna Foos. The Golden Eagles would still trail the Bombers by four going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles made their best attempt to challenge the Bombers for the lead. The teams each had eight shots and Brockport outscored the Bombers 5-3. Wise put up her fifth and final goal of the game, Nordyke recorded her third, and Cody her second. Cassidy Burnash netted three while Kilburn and Tristan Davis each put up one goal. Despite the Golden Eagles efforts, the Bombers were able to maintain their lead and claim the 16-12 victory.
The Bombers will travel to Cortland, NY for a Cortaca matchup on Wednesday March 6
th at 4pm.
