ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team played in a pair of matches on Tuesday down in Orlando, Florida as they first tasted victory against Macalester College besting them 6-3 in the programs morning match as they then took on Haverford College where they fell 7-2 against the Fords.
Ithaca 6, Macalester 3 (F)
The Bombers were able to sweep doubles play winning all three matchups against the Scots as leading the way with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles was
Jacob Wachs and
Ean Lantzy.
Gijs Fidler and
Emiliano Pedrero were tested in the top slot as they went back and forth against Liam Lynch/Alex Sargent as the pairs traded points before the IC tandem claimed an 8-7 (7-4) win. At No. 2 doubles,
Eric Dubilirer and
Siddharth Vaada teamed together to take down the duo of Jordan Doi and Lucas Wood by an 8-5 score.
Ithaca was able to cement the victory over Macalester taking points at first, second and third singles. Slated at No. 1 singles,
Nicolas Luis won his match 6-2, 6-3.
Carlos Hernandez was able to follow suit as he breezed past Liam Lynch besting the Scott by scores of 6-4, 6-4. The final singles victory was claimed by first year
Gijs Fidler who narrowly dropped the first set 6-7 but flipped the script in the second taking it 7-6 and won the decisive third over Jordan Doi, 1-0 (13-11).
Haverford 7, Ithaca 2
Similar to the morning matches, the Bombers had their most success come in doubles play. The team of
Gijs Fidler and
Emiliano Pedrero was able to best the Fords tandem of Kirin Eicher and James McKenzie by an 8-4 score. The other Ithaca point came at No. 2 doubles with the duo of
Siddharth Vaada and
Eric Dubilirer taking down Adam Chow and Justin Minerva, 8-7 (7-3).
Singles action saw a few competitive matches, but the Bombers came up short in each of them. In the No. 1 slot,
Nicolas Luis dropped the first set 1-6, but took the second 7-5 and made it hard on Marko Arboleda who was eventually able to clinch the final set 7-5 (15-13).
Carlos Hernandez also had a back-and-forth match especially in the second set against Justin Minerva who ended up winning 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
The Bombers who now have an overall record of 2-5 will be off on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday, March 14 in matchup against Springfield College on the USTA National Campus at 10 a.m.
