Men’s Basketball Drops Nailbiter to RIT, 84-83

ITHACA, NY– The Ithaca College men's basketball dropped a nailbiter against Liberty League foe RIT with a final score of 84-83 at Ben Light Gymnasium on February 6. The Bombers fell to 11-10 on the season while the Tigers improved to 11-10. This win pushed the Tigers ahead of the Bombers in the Liberty League standings as they now hold a one-game advantage over Ithaca.

This game was tight from start to finish, especially in the first half where both defenses played a gritty game. Triston Wennersten was the early offensive catalyst for the Bombers as he got hot early in this one. Wennersten was efficient in the paint and behind the arc as he had seven points within the first five minutes.

On the Tigers' side, it was Chase Dickens who got things going offensively for them. He was hitting tough shots all night long and whenever the Tigers went cold offensively; Dickens was there to answer. Ithaca led for the majority of the first half but a late run by the Tigers had them up by three at the end of the first half.

Logan Wendell and Aidan Holmes got things started for the Bombers on offense as they hit Ithaca's first two shots. RIT came storming back as Dickens hit a fastbreak layup to give them a 54-47 lead.

RIT led for the majority of the second half but a 3-pointer from Wennersten with 4:48 brought the Bombers within one point with the score being 74-73. RIT was able to win the game with 18 seconds left after Matt Caggiano hit two clutch free throws propelling them over the Bombers.

Dickens led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points while Wennersten led the way for the Bombers with 22 of his own.

The Bombers' next game will be another Liberty League contest against St. Lawrence back in Ben Light Gymnasium this Friday, February 9 at 7:30 pm.
