Men’s Swimming & Diving Beat Union but Fall to SUNY Geneseo

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming & diving team hosted both Union College and SUNY Geneseo for its final regular season duals of the 2023-24 season. The Bombers celebrated Senior Day honoring the careers of Dennis Berg, James Collishaw, Joe Pezzini, Michael Paulos, Ethan Mossi and Jack Marxen as the ended up dominating Union besting the Garnet Charger by a 247-41 final but fell to the SUNY Geneseo Knights in a back-and-forth matchup, 152-148.
 
In the pool, the Bombers saw eight first place finishes including winning the opening 200-yard medley relay where Alec Kutsner, Michael Paulos, Matthew Mitros and James Collishaw teamed up for a 1:31.44 finish which was bested the group from Geneseo who swam a 1:31.85. James Collishaw would go on to win a pair of races in the 50-yard freestyle (20.36) and the 100-yard freestyle (45.06). Also turning in strong individual performances were both Ryan Cooke and Michael Paulos. Cooke would first win the 200-yard free with a time of 1:41.74, which was over two seconds faster than a pair of Knights swimmers and he would also win the 500-yard freestyle touching the final wall in 4:42.75, which bested teammate Matthew Stevens (4:45.95).
 
Paulos showed out in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing first with a recorded time of 58.26. He also came up with a second-place result in the 100-yard butterfly finishing in 51.10 as just ahead of him was teammate Matthew Mitros. In diving action, Ethan Godfrey finished third on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Godfrey first recorded a finals score of 284.30 in 3-meter action and then produced a 300.75 on the 1-meter boards.

Divers will return to action next Saturday traveling to SUNY Geneseo for the Genaca Diving Invitational at 12:00 p.m. and the entire program will take part in the four-day Liberty League Championships beginning on Wednesday, February 21.
