ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team played in the backend of back-to-back on Sunday afternoon as Smith College was in town for a non-conference matchup. The Pioneers were able to hand IC its first loss of the season winning 7-2 as they swept doubles play enroute to the victory.
Both the tandems of
Alys Pop and
Taylor Crain at No. 1 doubles and A
Ava Casell-Lapetina and
Maddie Sutro at No. 3 doubles both fell in competitive 8-5 matches.
Alys Pop improved to 2-0 this spring as the first year defeated Clara Goshgarian 7-5, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. The only other win of the day for the Bombers came from sophomore
Sabrina Cheung as she also picked up her second victory of the season besting Miranda Gibson by set scores of 6-3, 6-1. At No. 1 singles,
Taylor Crain won the first set over Ayla Hauser 7-5, but fell in the next two by scores of 6-4, 6-3.
The Bombers are now 2-1 overall and are back in action on Saturday, March 2 in a Liberty League match against St. Lawrence University. It's slated to begin at 2 p.m. in Canton, N.Y.
