Gymnastics Finishes Fifth at Empire State Collegiate Championship

ITHACA, N.Y. –
The Ithaca College gymnastics team traveled over to East Hill to compete in the Empire State Collegiate Championship hosted by Cornell on Sunday at Newman Arena. The Bombers finished fifth out of six teams with a final score of 189.050.

Brockport won the meet with 193.025, while Long Island University was the runner-up with 192.500. Cornell placed third with 192.075 and Cortland took fourth with 191.225. Utica finished in sixth with 184.325.

The Bombers started the competition on floor and earned 48.175. Corey Foster and Grace Murray led the way with 9.800, while Caitlin Pellegrino earned 9.650. Taylor Arias started off the rotation with a strong performance of 9.550 and Abby Chesshire contributed 9.375. Jillian Freyman rounded out the event with 9.100.

IC then moved over to vault and received 47.350 to sit in second place after two rotations with 95.525. Lauren Babineaux paced the Bombers with 9.700 out of the sixth spot, while Pellegrino earned 9.600. Natalie Steed made her debut with 9.475 and Freyman scored 9.375. Cassidy Gallivan scored 9.200 and Murray had 9.050.

After a bye, Ithaca went over to bars and had a tough go with 45.800. Babineaux received the highest score of the rotation with 9.550, while Coral Cotteleer had 9.425. Skye Cohen earned 9.225 and Marlena Bailey had 9.025. Kaylie Goodwin and Hana Miller also competed in the event and scored 8.575 and 8.400.

The competition concluded on beam with 47.725. Goodwin shined with 9.825 and Emily Kobusky turned in a 9.775 routine. Freyman was awarded 9.600 and Pellegrino had 9.500. Foster received 9.025 and Chesshire scored 8.750.

Ithaca heads to Cortland on February 14 for a dual meet and then returns home on the 18th.
