ITHACA, N.Y.– In a must-win game to stay in the playoff hunt, the Ithaca College men's basketball team put on an offensive clinic against Clarkson, taking down the Golden Knights with a final score of 93-86 in Ben Light Gymnasium on February 10. The Bombers are now back in the win column after dropping three straight. The win propelled IC to a 12-11 record, while Clarkson fell to 12-11.
The story of the afternoon was the career day for
Logan Wendell, who poured in 37 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field and 10-of-11 at the free throw line. His previous career-high point total was 33 set during his freshman season. Wendell entered the contest just 23 points shy of 1,000 points for his career and reached that milestone on a pair of free throws with 12:27 left in the game. He is now the 30th player in program history to reach 1,000 points and was just the 12th Bomber to hit that marker in 75 games or fewer.
After a disappointing loss to St. Lawrence the previous night in which the Bombers only managed 60 points, the Ithaca offense got to work early and often against Clarkson.
Aidan Holmes,
Cole Wissink and
Evan Cabral were the main contributors early for the Bombers as they helped Ithaca climb to a five-point lead just a few minutes into the game.
Despite Ithaca's firepower on offense, Clarkson wouldn't go out without a fight, especially against a Liberty League opponent. Ryan Miles-Ferguson was the standout scorer for the Golden Knights as he was all over the floor throughout the game. Ithaca built a sizeable lead going into halftime with the score being 45-38.
The second half was when we saw Wendell takeover for the Bombers. He was clearly frustrated with the night prior and his determination came through as he was hitting tough shots all night long.
Andrew Geschickter was also a key component of the Bombers' success as he was clutch from the free throw line and behind the arc to finish the game with 17 points.
Some late, clutch free throws from Wendell and Wissink helped to put the game away for the Bombers. This huge bounce-back win for the Bombers finished with a final score of 93-86 in Ben Light Gymnasium.
Ithaca will continue their Liberty League homestand next Friday, February 16th when they take on Bard College with tip-off at 7:30 pm.
