LEXINGTON, Ky. – Three members of the No. 20 ranked Ithaca College volleyball team were selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America teams, the organization announced on Wednesday, November 27.
Sophomore setter
Wesley Slavin earned a place on the Second Team, while fellow sophomore's
Naomi Clauhs and
Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu earned Honorable Mention honors. These selections mark the first All-American recognition for both Slavin and Clauhs, while Gonzalez-Abreu picks up her second-straight Honorable Mention recognition.
The Bombers finished the season with a 24-7 record where they were once again Liberty League regular season champions with a perfect 8-0 record, while capturing their third-straight Liberty League Championship. Ithaca would defeat Lasell University and (RV) Smith College in the NCAA First Round and Second Round but fell to No. 3 Johns Hopkins in the Regional Championship match.
Wesley Slavin was instrumental in the team's offensive success, tallying 925 assists across 29 matches. She churned out 9.95 assists per set, which ranks 22
nd in NCAA Division III and finished fifth on the team in digs (174). She also recorded a career-high 39 service aces and excelled in the postseason, recording 30 or more assists in four of the five matches, including all three games within the NCAA Tournament. Alongside her All-America recognition, Slavin was named Region III Player of the Year, First Team All-Region, First Team All-Liberty League and was the Liberty League Player of the Year.
Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu had another outstanding season in 2024, ranking second on the team in kills (315), third in digs (219), while also contributing 30 service aces and 25 blocks. Her 315 kills and 3.15 kills per set ranked her fourth within the Liberty League as she now has 651 career kills after her first two seasons with the Bombers.
Sophomore outside hitter
Naomi Clauhs emerged as Ithaca's top hitter this season, leading the team with 318 kills on 884 attempts for a .239 hitting percentage. She finished third in the Liberty League in total kills and also set career-highs in aces (3), blocks (21) and overall points scored (339.5). Clauhs recorded double digit kill totals in both the Lasell and Johns Hopkins matches as part of the NCAA Tournament and was also named First Team All-Region III and All-Liberty League First Team.
