Women’s Swimming & Diving Dominate Cortland in Home Dual Victory

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving team was back in action on Saturday afternoon hosting crosstown rivals Cortland for a home dual inside Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium. The Bombers put together their best performance of the early dual meet season putting up a dominant display that saw 11 first-place finishes as they ended up besting the Red Dragons 204-96.
 
IC swept both relay races getting the meet started with one-two finish. The "A" relay squad that consisted of Samantha Bender, Sydney Koehler, Kathleen Papiernik and Angela Merch raced to a first place finish time of 4:06.48 in the 400 medley and behind them was the "B" relay of Elke Beaumont, Spencer Carroll, Naomi Fry and Jillian Wedding who swam to a time of 4:13.00. The Bombers closed out the meet by winning the 400-yard freestyle with Samantha Bender, Sierra Houck, Elke Beaumont and Angela Merch teaming up for the win at 3:45.11.
 
Reigning Liberty League Diver of the Week Kailee Payne swept the competition on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Payne defeated teammate Angela Burke in both events, beginning her day with a win on the 3-meter boards with a score of 292.55 and would go on to win on the 1-meter board with a finals score of 284.65, over Burke's.
 
Samantha Bender showed off her speed topping the field in the 50-yard freestyle with a recorded time of 24.96, nipping Cortland's Alayna Miller who finished in 24.98. Bender would also win the 200 free touching the final wall nearly two seconds faster than Leah Bernhardt at 1:59.63. Elke Beaumont won the 100-yard backstroke at 1:03.18 with teammate Kathleen Papiernik winning the 200-yard event with a recorded time of 2:15.29. She would also go on to win the 400-yard IM producing a time of 4:52.33 that was over five seconds faster than Claire Weppler.
 
Next up, the Bombers will have nearly two weeks to train for their next dual meet which will take place on Saturday, November 23 when they host RIT for a 1 p.m. start.
