Volleyball Remains Perfect in the Liberty League in Three Set Win over St. Lawerence

CANTON, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's volleyball team traveled to Canton, N.Y. on Saturday to face the St. Lawrence Saints in a Liberty League matchup. The No. 20 ranked Bombers dominated the Saints in a three-set sweep, furthering their conference and national rank. The Bombers now stand at 16-3 and are undefeated in conference play having won 18-straight regular season Liberty League matchups dating back to the 2021 season.

It was a back-and-forth match at the beginning of the first set, but Ithaca took charge at the 10-point mark. From there the Bombers led the rest of the set, not allowing the Saints to make a comeback. Key plays from Bomber players Anaya Prince, Naomi Clauhs, Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu, and Wesley Slavin allowed them to pull away in the middle of the set. A few mistakes and service errors from the Saints also gave the Bombers momentum. The set ended in an attacking error from St. Lawrence (25-16).

From the second set on, Ithaca was completely in control. They led the second set 11-1 at one point, not allowing anything offensively for the Saints. It was the outside and right-side hitters that dominated on the floor for Ithaca, followed by tremendous defense from the back half of the floor.

The Saints had an early lead in the third set due to three service aces from Maggie Layman, but Ithaca was quick to reboot and respond. They trailed most of the third set but were able to show their grit and made a late comeback. First year Jayden Wiese was able to get the Bombers going off some nice assists from Wesley Slavin. A kill from Gonzalez-Abreu closed out the third set (25-23).

The Bombers next game will be away at the Wesleyan Invitational, where they will face No. 23 Colby College and No. 1 Juniata College as well as Wesleyan University. Ithaca will first square off against Colby on Friday, October 25 with a 5 p.m. start time.
