Union’s First Half Goal Proves to Be Enough to Down Ithaca Men’s Soccer

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team hosted the Union Garnet Chargers on Friday afternoon at Carp Wood Field. In a gritty Liberty League matchup, Union's first-half goal proved decisive, handing the Bombers a 1-0 loss. This defeat drops Ithaca's overall record to 6-5-2 and their Liberty League record to 2-2-1. Union improves to 5-5-4, securing their first conference win of the season.

Union had several opportunities early in the first half. Ten minutes into the game, Nate Lanlois scored from 30 yards out, giving the Garnet Chargers a 1-0 lead. The early goal intensified the rivalry, leading to a yellow card for Union's Lucas Crowley after a foul on an Ithaca player.

The Bombers had a few chances with two shots on goal but couldn't capitalize. Liam Breslin had another shot on goal, but the story of the first half was the physical play, with Union receiving two more yellow cards at the 29-minute mark. Jack Carney tested Union's goalkeeper Jackson Magee with two shots on net, but Magee was up to the task. Ithaca nearly equalized in the final minute of the first half with shots from Ikey Borden and Emmett Enriquez, but Magee kept them out, maintaining the 1-0 scoreline.

The second half mirrored the first, with Ithaca creating several chances but failing to score. Ikey Borden, Drew Warren, Jared Krasnove, and Connor Tierney all had shots on goal, but Magee's stellar performance kept Union in front. Despite a valiant effort until the final whistle, Ithaca was shutout 1-0. Six Bombers had shots on goal, with Carney and Enriquez leading with two each. Magee, with his remarkable 10 saves, was the clear MVP for Union.

Ithaca's next game is against Skidmore on Saturday, October 19th, at 2 p.m. at Carp Wood Field in Ithaca, marking another crucial Liberty League match.
