ALL-TIME SERIES: Ithaca hosts RPI this Saturday in the 10th all-time meeting between the two schools. RPI leads the series, 5-4, but the Bombers have won each of the past two games, both of which were decided by a field goal. Since 2017, four games between IC and RPI have been decided by one score.
RECAP FROM SATURDAY: IC earned its first Liberty League win of the season with a 24-0 victory over Rochester, handing the Yellowjackets their first loss of the year. Ithaca ran for nearly 300 yards in the win and held Rochester to 286 yards of offense.
After a 3-0 halftime score on a 24-yard Dere Baldin field goal with 14 seconds remaining, the Bombers blew the game open with three touchdowns over a 16-minute span.
Nicholas Lang caught a 68-yard pass from
Matthew Parker with 6:10 remaining in the third quarter and then
Jalen Leonard-Osbourne scored twice on 25- and 28-yard runs at the 14:10 and 6:09 marks of the fourth quarter.
JLO AND JWILL: In the win over Rochester, Leonard-Osbourne and
Jake Williams both rushed for 100 yards. Leonard-Osbourne had 102 yards on 18 attempts, while Williams rushed for 130 yards on 11 carries, including a long of 69 yards.
The last time two Bombers rushed for over 100 yards in the same game took place back in 2012 when Clay Ardoin ran for 206 yards and Jarrett Naiden had 116 yards against Moravian in the season opener.
SHUTOUTS: With the 24-0 win last Saturday, Ithaca has now shut out an opponent at least once each year since 2016. During that stretch, the Bombers have posted 13 shutout wins, split between seven at home and six on the road.
LIBERTY LEAGUE AND D3FB HONORS: On Monday, the Liberty League named Leonard-Osbourne as the Offensive Performer of the Week as he eclipsed 2,000 career rushing yards in the win over Rochester.
Darren Brunner was selected as the Special Teams Performer of the Week after averaging 44 yards on five punts, with three landing inside the 20 and two of those inside the 10.
On Tuesday, D3football.com placed
Jake Connolly on the Team of the Week at safety after he logged 13 tackles with a half tackle for loss, a forced fumble and pass breakup against Rochester. This is the second career D3football.com Team of the Week honor for Connolly, and the third this season for Ithaca.
LIBERTY LEAGUE OUTLOOK: Through two Liberty League games, Hobart leads the standings at 2-0, while Ithaca, Rochester RPI and St. Lawrence are all 1-1. Buffalo State and Union are 0-1.
This week, Hobart is at St. Lawrence and Buffalo State is at Union. Rochester is on a bye.
NCAA STAT LEADERS: IC continues to be one of the most disciplined teams in Division II as the Bombers are fifth in fewest penalty yards (131) and penalty yards per game (26.2) and are 10th in fewest penalties (18) and penalties per game (3.6). IC also ranks 11th in fourth down defense (18.2%) and 17th in blocked kicks.
RPI is fourth in fourth down defense (15.4%), seventh in blocked punts and 17th in blocked kicks.
SCOUTING RPI: The Engineers are 3-3 on the season and are coming off a 34-10 win over St. Lawrence last Saturday. RPI has lost to Wisconsin-La Crosse (35-0), Endicott (28-20) and Rochester (14-7), and has beaten Wilkes (32-25) and WPI (51-7).
RPI leads the Liberty League scoring offense (24.0), passing offense (222.7), rushing defense (95.3) and sacks (10).
Jake Kazanowsky is the lone quarterback in the Liberty League to have thrown for over 1,000 yards so far this season as he is 1,230 yards on 112 completions and six touchdowns. Kayden White is the team's leading rusher with 270 yards and five scores, while Hayden Faraday and Sean Kelly are receiving threats with 417 and 376 yards.
Defensively, Anthony D'Agostino has 47 total tackles, while Cassius Johnson has seven pass breakups with 26 tackles. Cortez Garrett and Mark Lapioli each have two interceptions on the season.
UP NEXT: The Bombers are on the road for the next two weeks with games at Buffalo State on October 26 and Union on November 2.
