Men’s Soccer Stifles Clarkson, 2-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - In a Liberty League matchup, Ithaca College men's soccer team defeated the Clarkson University Golden Knights 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The win improved the Bombers record to 6-4-2 overall and 2–1-1 in Liberty League play.

The Bombers dominated the entire game right from the start. They were rewarded in the 19th minute when Drew Warren sent a corner kick right into the middle of the box, allowing Jack Carney to head the ball right past the Clarkson goalkeeper, Carter Kladstrup. The goal was the fifth of the season for Carney.

The Bombers were relentless throughout the first half, and they were able to keep possession in the offensive zone for most of the half. The Bombers offense forced Kladstrup to make multiple acrobatic saves to keep the Golden Knights close.

Ithaca came close to adding an insurance effort in the 35th minute of the game off of a free kick shot attempt from Connor Tierney which forced Kladstrup to make a diving stop. At the end of the first half the Bombers had outshot the Golden Knights 11-2, and Brayden Milbrandt had barely been challenged, only facing one shot on goal.

The Bombers kept up the offensive pace in the second half of the game getting four shot attempts early from Tierney and Landon Hellwig. The Bombers defense was exceptional throughout the game as well; it showed in the second half with Ithaca not allowing a shot until the 81st minute.

In the 89th minute of the game, the Bombers made it 2-0 after a couple of defensive lapses from Clarkson, allowed Jared Krasnove to show off his speed, where he picked up a loose ball with no goalkeeper in front to stop the shot and fired it into the back of the net. The Bombers pushed on a 2-1 advantage on the goalkeeper with initial effort by Andrew Kusek pushed away.

Ithaca outshot Clarkson at the end of the game 22-6, and the Bombers also had 14 shots on goal to the Golden Knights two.

The Bombers next game is the third game of a six game homestand on Friday at 4 p.m. against Union College. The Garnet Chargers enter the matchup with a 4-5-4 overall record and are 0-1-2 in conference play.
