Celebration win over Alfred

Women’s Swimming & Diving Dominate Alfred University

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving program hit the road for a dual against Alfred University and the Bombers saw multiple event winners as they dominated the Saxons winning the meet by a final score of 238-53.

The Bombers began the afternoon going one-two in the 200-yard medley relay with "A" winning with a time of 1:54.25 with Samantha Bender, Spencer Carroll, Kathleen Papiernik and Angela Merch combining for the effort. IC would see the first three finishers in the 1,650 free with Emma Heinze winning with a time of 18:42.72 followed by Ava Palfreyman (18:59.19) and Caroline Armistead (19:32.80).

The winner of the 50-yard backstroke ended up being Ithaca's Elke Beaumont (29.74) as she was followed by Sierra Houck (30.80) and Norah Polonsky (31.21) who finished second and third respectively. Samantha Bender tasted her first individual victory of the afternoon besting the field in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.03 and Spencer Carroll led the Bombers to another 1-2-3 finish. Carroll won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.57 and behind her was Emma Kidd (32.69) and Sydney Levensten. Angela Merch won the 50-yard freestyle over Kidd as they touched the final wall with times of 25.80 and 26.03.

Papiernik went on to win the 200-yard freestyle finishing in 2:04.71. Spencer Carroll won her second race this time the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.58. Both Elke Beaumont and Angela Merch would win the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke, respectively putting up times of 1:02.62 and 1:14.28.

In diving action, Ithaca's Kailee Payne put together a finals score of 287.80 to beat teammates Abby Marraccino (253.30) and Audrey Scott (250.45) on the 1-meter boards. Marraccino would win on the 3-meter boards as she totaled a winning score of 255.60 with Kailee Payne (255.60) finishing second and Audrey Scott (243.24) was third.

Abby Pecze won her first-ever collegiate event winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:34.15 over teammate Alex Eakin. Naomi Fry would win the 200-yard IM with a recorded time of 2:18.73 in the final individual event of the afternoon. The 200-yard freestyle relay was dominated by the IC relays as the "A" squad of Sierra Houck, Naomi Fry, Spencer Carroll and Samantha Bender put together a time of 1:41.88 beat the "B" squad of Elke Beaumont, Jillian Wedding, Emma Kidd and Angela Merch who were second at 1:43.24.

The Bombers will return to action in a tri-meet next weekend on the South Hill competing in duals against SUNY Geneseo and Union College. The IC divers will compete tomorrow on Sunday, January 28 hosting the Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational beginning at 10 a.m.
