Geneva, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team defeated William Smith by a score of 78–56 on Friday night. A consistent offensive game on the floor allowed the Bombers to get ahead early and close out the game comfortably in the end.
June Dickson drained 17 points to lead all scorers with
Annabella Yorio following with 13 points, and
Camryn Coffey with 12. Great team play by the Bombers was displayed all evening long with 14 assists, 23 forced turnovers and 43.7% shooting from the field helping them earn the victory.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth offensive battle between the Bombers and the Herons.
June Dickson started off the game hot with a three-pointer and jumper making the game 13-11 in favor of the Bombers. William Smith fought back to stay in the game, but
Camryn Coffey had a fast break three to make the score 22-17, Ithaca when the quarter came to a close.
The Bombers began to take over in the second half, going on a 7-0 run right off the bat. William Smith tried to fight back, but
Annabella Yorio came in big with a backdoor and-one layup assisted by
Hannah Polce followed by a Yorio free throw to put the three point play into action.
June Dickson hit another three pointer, and
Tori Drevna closed out the quarter putting away two free-throws making the score 43-31 heading into halftime.
Ithaca came out hot with a layup by
Camryn Coffey in the paint, but William Smith answered with a Molly Walsh jumper making the score 45-33 with eight minutes left in the quarter. Yorio had a tough finish in the paint and Drevna added in a jumper to make the score 55-38 with four to go. The Bombers closed out the third on a 7-0 run with
Zoraida Icabalceta hitting a jumper and Dickson making a layup followed by a three-pointer. The score was 64-44 heading into the final quarter.
The Herons made a good effort in the fourth quarter, shooting 37.5% from beyond the arc, but it was not enough to stop Ithaca's offense. An early offensive effort made by Drevna and
Jillian Payne, who put back a three and a jumper helped the Bombers complete the win at 78-56.
Ithaca College moves to 14–3 on the season and 8-2 in the Liberty League. The Bombers will head to Union College Saturday afternoon facing off with the Garnet Chargers for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
