GENEVA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's tennis team finished day one of the 2023 Northeast ITA on Saturday, September 23 with junior
Taylor Crain still competing in the single main draw. This year's event is once again hosted by William Smith College at the HWS Tennis Center.
Crain defeated Union College's Grace Nicol in the first round, winning the first set 6-1 and the following set 6-2 to advance to the round of 32. In the round of 32, she defeated Juniata's Medina Yessenaliyeva in two sets (6-3, 6-1) to advance to the round of 16 where she will face the winner of TCNJ's Sofie Shen and RPI's Rapur on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
First year
Alys Pop also competed in singles action and she was successful in her first round matchup defeating Juniata's Celia Navarro 7-6 (5), 6-1. However, she was defeated in the round of 32, dropping a highly contested affair to RPI's Loma Flores by a 6-1, 6-7 (14), 14-12 decision.
In doubles action both
Taylor Crain and
Alys Pop teamed up and they dismantled the duo from RPI winning 8-4 to advance to play the No. 4 seeded duo from NYU.
The women's tennis team will return to action tomorrow for round of 16 play and consolation bracket competition beginning at 8:30 a.m.Â
